The longest in the Company’s history tour in China started in the beginning of November. The ensemble travelled to the Celestial Empire with Anna Karenina. The performances were given in Shanghai, Beijing and other cities. The Chinese audience was greeting the Boris Eifman’s production with rapturous applause.

Anna Karenina is brought to continental China for the first time. “The mission of our company is to represent the latest developments of Russian ballet in the world. The Chinese audience knows the classical Russian choreography rather well. What we are doing is we are showing that in Russia the original and successful modern ballet repertory is also created,” says Boris Eifman.

The leading venues of the Asian region are welcoming the Eifman Ballet. In particular, on November 21 and 22 the Company gave performances at the Beijing National Center of Performing Arts, the main stage of the country with 6500 seating capacity. The Chinese government representatives were also present in the audience. As a reporter of TASS news agency notes, the Beijing audience greeted the ballet Anna Karenina with much enthusiasm. “We are very glad to have such success on the Beijing stage and would like for it to become a beginning of a long, long cooperation,” Boris Eifman noted in an interview to the news agency. According to the choreographer, Eifman Ballet will come to China again in 2017. Eifman also emphasized: the Company seeks to bear art capable to bring people together and help them to find mutual understanding. The latter, he believes, occurs “when emotions go from heart to heart”.

During the Company’s tour in the capital of China Boris Eifman visited the Beijing Dance Academy and was named an honorable professor of the Academy. The choreographer talked with students and teachers of the Academy and told them about the Eifman Ballet history and the artistic and philosophical originality of his art.

On November 25 the only performance in the city of Zhongshan took place, and on November 28 and 29 the Company presented Anna Karenina to Macau for the first time. These performances marked a finale of the Chinese tour.
